How we decide what's
Editorial Policy

How we decide what's real.

The standards that govern every story we publish.

Independence

Our editorial decisions are made solely by our newsroom. No advertiser, partner or investor has any influence over what we report or how we report it.

Verification

Every factual claim must be independently corroborated before publication. The Reality Meter score reflects the strength of that verification and is set by editors, not writers.

Sources

We protect confidential sources absolutely. Where we grant anonymity, we explain to readers why. We do not pay sources for information.

Transparency

When we get something wrong, we correct it openly and promptly on our Corrections page. We disclose conflicts of interest wherever they could reasonably affect trust.
